Fishing Anyone?

Well the Refuge now has 100 and 3 little mouths to feed......
Well they are little Silver Perch. They were introduced into the aquaponic system today. In about 10-12 months they should be big enough to eat and their waste will provide nutrients for the plants to grow.

The other 3 are baby Ring Tail Possums.
These 3 Guys are about 116grams and will be at about 600-650 grams when ready to release back into a safe area in the Busselton area. They smell of Peppermint as what they eat is called a Peppermint tree.

What a Sight !!!

Well the Refuge was privileged today to see a flock of 50 or more Carnaby White tailed Black cockatoos. I was on my way down to the dam to fill the firefighting trailer when the flock flew above my head and into the Gum trees. What a sight to see. A quick count totalled 50 or more individuals --well they never stay still long enought o count them all now do they! all making a ruckus and eating the marri nuts that are so plentifull down this way. Heres a shot of them in the dead marri overlooking the Refuge.
Sorry that the shots are not closer but a don't have a fancy zoom lens like one Dave at Lancashire and Outback Safaris HAS!.
The Refuge also had another Visitor a Magnificent Wedge Tailed Eagle youngster. He was looking at me looking at him--throught the Homestead window view I have whilst sitting at the computer doing WORK. Looks like Mum and Dad have left him to go about his business as he is a big boy now.

and in 2-3 weeks the 100 fingerlings [Fish] will go into the 3,000litre tank.

The raised vege garden beds are also doing well. Tommies, Lettuce, Peas, Onions, Spuds, Basil, Cucumber, Pumpkins and the list goes on. To feed us and suppliment to some of the animals in care.

How big should a hole be? Thats the question I am thinking to my self.
As the Refuge is trying to be self sufficient and sustainable an aquaponic system is going in. The Tank will hold 100 or more silver perch and the grow beds in the background will have vegetables growing. more to come..
